Under the craftsmen training scheme, Government I.T.I., Sivagangai was established by the Government of Tamilnadu as per G.O. MS. No. 156 Lab. & Emp. (52) Dept. Dt:16-07-2007 to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for the domestic industry, to raise quantitatively and qualitatively the industrial production by systematic training to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them employable training, to cultivate and nurture a technical and industrial attitude in the minds of the younger generation.
SIVAGANGAI District is earmarked as one of the backward District of Tamilnadu in which poor people living in and around the city. For the benefits of the people, the Government of Tamilnadu decided to start well equipped I.T.I. at Sivagangai city with six familiar trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Welder, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Sewing Technology and Mechanic Motor Cycle, etc. A new building was constructed at Muthu patti village nearby Sivagangai city in which Principal room and Office administration has placed in left side of the entrance and main trades like Fitter, Welder and Electrician located rear side of the building.
The institute has been allotted 15 acres of land by the Government of Tamilnadu for the future developments and new schemes.
In the history of Maruthu Pandiar brothers who fought for the independence of India were living in Sivagangai and it is also Administrative head quarters for them. Raja and Rani palace is also familiar here. Sivagangai is the famous parliamentary constituency in India.
The maximum capacity of the I.T.I. are 293 of six trades affiliated by NCVT. All the trainees undergone training are involved in sports and NSS activity. The blood donation camp also are conducted twice per annum. Regional level and state level sports participated by the trainees to enhance discipline and leadership quality. Sakthi sugar’s Pvt. limited, EID Parry’s, Kannathal mills, MM Forging, etc. are some of famous industries are situated around the city. BHEL is one of the leading public sector undertaking by Government of India has been established about 50Kms. away from Sivagangai. A famous city Madurai is also 35Kms. away from here. A campus interview are conducted for the outgoing students by the reputed firms select the trainees at this institute for their apprenticeship training.
IMC has been formed here. The role of IMC is to enhance the quality of training for the trainee to match Industrial needs and also for the future developments IMC meetings are conducted twice in a year (or) whenever needs for the urgent agenda.
